Madix Splix’s Clutch Hitting And Nolan Darrell’s Pitching Propels La Porte Slicers JV To Victory Over Merrillville Junior Varsity Pirates

Madix Splix drove in five runs on three hits to lead La Porte Slicers JV past Merrillville Junior Varsity Pirates 22-0 on Wednesday. Splix tripled in the third inning, scoring three runs, and singled in the first inning, scoring two. Nolan Darrell struck out 10 batters on the day. The righty also surrendered zero hits and zero runs over four and two-thirds innings while walking none. La Porte got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Ian Mitchell singled, scoring two runs, Splix singled, scoring two runs, an error scored one run, Eli Combs hit into a fielder's choice, but one run scored, Colin Wathen drew a walk, scoring one run, Jayden Proffitt hit into a fielder's choice, but two runs scored, Mitchell grounded out, scoring one run, and Splix grounded out, scoring one run. A wild pitch extended the Slicers lead to 14-0 in the bottom of the second inning. La Porte scored eight runs on three hits in the bottom of the third inning. An error scored one run, Jack Lampa was struck by a pitch, driving in a run, Proffitt drew a walk, scoring one run, Mitchell singled, scoring one run, Wes Kaiser drew a walk, scoring one run, and Splix tripled, scoring three runs. Proffitt appeared in relief for the Slicers. Mitchell and Splix each collected three hits for La Porte. Kaiser led the Slicers with three walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, tallying 12 walks for the game. Ryan Kavanaugh, Combs, and Proffitt each stole multiple bases for La Porte. The Slicers ran wild on the base paths, amassing 12 stolen bases for the game. La Porte was sure-handed and didn't commit a single error. Kaiser made the most plays with 10. La Porte Slicers JV will next be in action Thursday, May 7th, when they will head to Mishawaka to take on the Cavemen. First pitch is slated for 5:00 pm.
