It came down to the wire on Friday, as La Porte Varsity Softball grabbed the victory in walk-off fashion, 8-7, over Hobart. The game was tied at seven in the bottom of the ninth when Allie Wiencek singled, scoring one run. Shayla Sorg collected four hits in five at bats in the win. Sorg doubled in the first inning, doubled in the sixth inning, doubled in the ninth inning, and singled in the fifth inning. Addison Combs earned the win for La Porte Varsity Slicers. The left-handed pitcher surrendered nine hits and seven runs (four earned) over nine innings, striking out six and walking four. La Porte Varsity Slicers accumulated 15 hits in the game. Evie Travis, Keraghan Blind, and Sorg each drove in two runs for La Porte Varsity Slicers. Madi Squire and Wiencek each collected multiple hits for La Porte Varsity Slicers. La Porte Varsity Slicers turned one double play in the game. La Porte welcome’s South Bend Riley on Saturday for their next game.
