LaPorte Slicer Varsity Claim Victory Over Lowell Red Devils By GameChanger Media LaPorte Slicer Varsity defeated Lowell Red Devils 8-4 on Saturday. Lowell Red Devils got on the board in the first inning after Ryan Wellwerts singled, scoring one run. LaPorte Slicer Varsity flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the first, scoring five runs on four hits to take the lead, 5-1. The biggest blow in the inning was a single by Jon Rinkel that drove in two. LaPorte Slicer Varsity added to their early lead in the bottom of the third inning after Lowell Red Devils committed an error, and CT Rusboldt singled down the left field line, each scoring one run. Joey Kirk earned the win for LaPorte Slicer Varsity. The pitcher allowed four hits and four runs (two earned) over five and two-thirds innings, striking out seven and walking four. Michael Reidenga took the loss for Lowell Red Devils. The starter went one inning, giving up five runs (three earned) on four hits, striking out none and walking two. Khalen Matzke tossed one and one-third innings of scoreless ball for LaPorte Slicer Varsity in relief. The reliever allowed zero hits, striking out two and walking four. LaPorte Slicer Varsity accumulated nine hits in the game. Cody Benedict and Rinkel were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected two hits for LaPorte Slicer Varsity while hitting back-to-back. Jordan Anderson and Rinkel each drove in two runs for LaPorte Slicer Varsity. LaPorte Slicer Varsity had patience at the plate, amassing eight walks for the game. Matzke and Rusboldt led the team with two walks each. Cam Mikulich, Mason Umfleet, Ethan Domke, and Wellwerts each collected one hit for Lowell Red Devils. Brett Beardsley, Umfleet, Domke, and Wellwerts each drove in one run for Lowell Red Devils. Lowell Red Devils had a strong eye at the plate, collecting eight walks for the game. Beardsley and Mikulich led the team with two bases on balls each. Stephen Poe and CT Rusboldt each pitched for LaPorte Slicer Varsity in the game. Rusboldt struck out Roan Cantlon to get the last out. Both teams were strong on the bump. LaPorte Slicer Varsity pitchers struck out three, while Lowell Red Devils sat down four. LaPorte Slicer Varsity opened the scoring in the third after Keegan Ramos singled, scoring one run. Poe earned the win for LaPorte Slicer Varsity. The hurler allowed three hits and zero runs over six innings, striking out two and walking three. Gavin Gutierrez took the loss for Lowell Red Devils. The starter went three innings, allowing one run on three hits, striking out one and walking none. Rusboldt collected the save. Ramos led LaPorte Slicer Varsity with one run batted in. The outfielder went 1-for-3 on the day. Jordan Anderson, LaPorte Slicer Varsity's number seven hitter, led the team with two hits in three at-bats. LaPorte Slicer Varsity were sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Rusboldt had the most chances in the field with seven. Gutierrez, Ethan Domke, and Ryan Wellwerts each collected one hit for Lowell Red Devils. Lowell Red Devils turned two double plays in the game.
