The La Porte Slicers opened Duneland Athletic Conference play tonight as they welcomed the Valparaiso Vikings to Kiwanis Stadium. Valparaiso jumped out to an early advantage, scoring twice in the first quarter to put the Slicers in a 14-0 hole. La Porte continued to battle, and with just 30 seconds remaining before halftime, the Slicers found the spark they needed. #21 Logan Wiesemann connected with #8 Landen Marshall for a 30-yard touchdown through the air, putting La Porte on the board and cutting into the Vikings’ lead heading into halftime. From there, the two teams battled through a scoreless third quarter as the Slicer defense kept La Porte within striking distance. The Vikings were eventually able to gain the upper hand in the fourth quarter, finding the end zone twice more to pull away. The loss moves La Porte to 2-1 overall and 0-1 in DAC play, but after opening the season with back-to-back shutout victories, the Slicers now have their first opportunity to respond to adversity. There is a lot of football still ahead. La Porte will be back on the road next week when the Slicers travel to Chesterton to take on the Trojans in another DAC matchup. Kickoff is set for 6:00 p.m. Your Slicers are 2-1 on the season. Back to work. Go Slicers!
