The Slicer Varsity Team stumble out of the gate throwing three interceptions in the first three drives. Once the bumpy road smoothed out the team had several long drives, being stopped at the goaline. On offense, Amelia Hovis came in and went 6/12 for 32 yds passing and one INT and added 7 yds rushing on the night. Mandy Yang Was 7/10 passing for 87 yds, one TD and two INT's. Eva Walker had 3 runs for 23 yds and 4 catches for another 18 yds. Kyria Zapala Ran for 60 yds on 6 carries. Keianah Hart caught 3 passes for 39 yds. Siona Ohime added 3 catches for 34 yds and one TD! On defense Kyria Zapala, Eva Walker, and Reagan Wireman each had 3 tackles and multiple pressures on the QB. Keianah Hart had 2 tackles and one INT. Marlee Burger added a tackle and an INT in the endzone. Outside of the rough start, the team really came together and played a complete game and one of the best halves of the season. The Slicers host Chesterton on Tuesday September 8th at Kesling Field. In the JV game, the Slicers fought hard after giving up two early touchdowns but eventually fell 13-6. Raelynn Bontrager threw several nice passes for completions to McKenna Long, Lucinda Desi, and a touchdown pass to Molly Altman. Amelia Hovis and Desi also led the team in rushing yards. Defensively, the team was led by Ta’Niyah Cooper who had numerous tackles for loss, or little to no gain. Stella Sims had a great tackle on fourth and short that gave the ball back to the offense. Savannah Lawson and Cienna Jordan had numerous tackles on the night to help keep Valpo scoreless in the entire 2nd half.
