Tired but smiling, the LaPorte Slicers opened their season by defeating the Wheeler Bobcats tonight, on the strength of the whole team. Every single LaPorte athlete scored points. Coming in, the team was down 5 swimmers, but everyone stepped up and swam their best to help LaPorte win. LaPorte opened the meet with a win in the 200 Medley Relay with: Abigail Burger (back), Cali Hatala (breast), Noor Hakim (fly), and Lily Siford (free). The Slicers then went on to win all eight individual swimming events behind one junior and three freshmen. Winning for LaPorte were: Lily Siford: 50 & 100 Freestyle Cali Hatala: 200 Individual Medley (PR) and 500 Freestyle Noor Hakim: 100 Butterfly and 100 Breaststroke (PR) Abigail Burger: 200 Freestyle and 100 Backstroke (PR)) The same quartet of girls finished the meet with a victory in the 400 Freestyle Relay. Shoutouts to Carmen Eguizabal, Liz Luna, Maddie Griffin, and Emma Boone, who stepped up to fill spots of missing swimmers, and scored team points in the process. The Slicers travel to Knox on Thursday. Always proud. Go Slicers! Coach Brahim
