In a meet that was closer than the score shows, the LaPorte Slicers fell to the Chesterton Trojans 79-106. LaPorte showed up ready to race and won some big races. The energy level of this team was way up there. I told the team, all I wanted was for them to do their best, and they sure did. The Slicers opened the meet with a big win in the 200 Medley Relay behind Jake Schroeder (backstroke), Abbas Hakim (breaststroke), Otto Wildhart (butterfly), and Gavin Crail (freestyle). LaPorte went a season PR, and actually beat their Sectional finals time from last season. All four boys had season best splits. The Slicers went 1-2 in the 100 Butterfly, with Otto Wildhart winning and teammate Jake Schroeder finishing second. They also went 1-2 in the 500 Freestyle with Roman Garay dropping over 10 seconds to win, and Chaise Adrian finishing a close second. Another 1-2 finish for the Slicers went to Abbas Hakim, and Gavin Crail. Hakim won the event with a season best swim. Chaise Adrian finished second to Chesterton's Luke Wheele in the 200 Freestyle, getting out-touched by 8 hundredths of a second. Adrian had a season best swim. Gavin Crail finished second in the 200 Individual Medley with a lifetime PR time of 2:01.97. The Slicers finished 2nd in the 200 Freestyle Relay with a season best time, behind Allen Fuller, Wildhart, Schroeder, and Adrian. 2 minutes later, Schroeder and Garay went 2-3 in the 100 Backstroke. LaPorte finished the meet with a season best swim in the 400 Freestyle Relay, just getting out-touched by Chesterton. Adrian, Garay, Crail and Hakim swam well, with Crail breaking into the 49's, and Hakim swimming a 48 to anchor the relay. Their time was also faster than last year's Sectional Finals time. Even in a loss, the Slicers stepped up and showed their on the verge of greatness. Other Slicers with PR's were: Caleb Johnson, Milo Jimenez, Karter Griffin, Chase Childers, and Bryce Kovalcin. The Slicers record falls to 12-3. They host Crown Point next Tuesday. Always proud. Go Slicers! Coach Brahim
