In the final regular season meet of the season for the girls team, the Slicers defeated the Merrillville Pirates 137-33. LaPorte won nearly every event, and finished 1-2-3 in several. The Slicers opened the meet with a win in the 200 Medley Relay behind: Abigail Burger (backstroke), Noor Hakim (breaststroke), Cali Hatala (butterfly), and Lily Siford (freestyle). Regan Hughes continued her comeback with a win in the 200 Freestyle. Hughes also won the 500 Freestyle. Noor Hakim won the 200 Individual Medley with a lifetime PR. Abigail Burger dropped over 5 seconds to finish second. Hakim also won the 100 Breaststroke. Senior Diver Chloe Chezem won diving with a score of 175.30. Chezem also stepped up and swam the 50 Freestyle, and finished 5th. After diving, Seniors Chezem and Sofia LaRocco were escorted by their parents, and signed the Slicer Swim Wall. After that, exchange student, Carmen Eguizabal demonstrated synchronized swimming to the appreciative crowd. Eguizabal has made a smooth transition to swimming this year, and has earned a solid spot in our lineup. Once the senior festivities were over, Cali Hatala won the 100 Butterfly. Hatala also won the 100 Backstroke. The 200 Freestyle Relay of Hughes, Burger, Katelyn Peterson, and LaRocco won with solid swims. Finally, the 400 Relay team of: Hughes, Hatala, Siford, and Hakim also wo0n. There were a lot of great swims all around. Shoutouts to Liz Luna, Nala Hammoud, Akira Goodman, and Lyla Bannwart for their PR swims. The Slicers finish up the regular season 9-10. They'll slowly start the taper process while getting ready for Sectionals. Once again, the Coaches and I couldn't be prouder of the way this team has stepped up this season. Always proud. Go Slicers!
