The LaPorte Slicers Boys Swimming and Dive team competed in the IHSAA State Championship prelims tonight at the IU Natatorium, and they sure made an impression on those watching. They opened the meet seeded 12th in the 200 Medley Relay. The Slicers had some increible splits enroute to breaking the LaPorte High School record by nearly a second. The Slicers finished 9th, .14 seconds off of 8th, which would have gotten them to the Championship finals tomorrow. They'll be the number one seed in the Consolation Finals. Every swimmer had a lifetime PR in their splits. The relay consisted of: Jakob Schroeder (backstroke 23.89), Abbas Hakim (breaststroke 25.71), Otto Wildhart (butterfly 22.79), and Chaise Adrian (freestyle 22.14). The old record of 1:35.38 was set by Ben Klimczak, Isaac Temores, Justin Dusza, and Jakob Cooper in 2017. It was nice to receive a congratulatory text from Ben Klimczak shortly after the race. Next up for the Slicers was the 200 Freestyle Relay with Gavin Crail, Roman Garay, Allen Fuller, and Otto Wildhart. The boys swam from 29th to 25th with Wildhart anchoring in a blazing 21.40 seconds. Freshman Schroeder finished 17th in the 100 Backstroke with his second fastest time ever (51.92). Abbas Hakim is coming back tomorrow in the 100 Breaststroke. Hakim swam a season best 58.00, to finish 11th in prelims. Schroeder, Adrian, Crail and Hakim finished the meet, in 20th place with their 400 Freestyle. Their time was 3:15.85, just off of their Sectional time. I'm happy with their performance today. They broke the relay record. Maybe they can lower that mark even more tomorrow. Always proud. Go Slicers! Coach Brahim
