Cody Benedict struck out 13 batters as he led LaPorte past the Pirates 11-0 on Wednesday at DeCamp Field. Benedict allowed zero hits and zero runs over five innings while walking none. Keegan Ramos collected three hits in three at bats in the win. Ramos singled in the first and third inning then doubled in the third. The Slicers opened the scoring in the first on Ramos’ single. LaPorte added two runs in the second when an error made the score 3-0. The Slicers scored eight runs on four hits in the bottom of the third inning. A passed ball scored one run, Reed Raymond and Jack Travis drew walks each scoring a run, Ramos singled scoring two runs and Benedict singled wrapping up the scoring for the inning. Benedict, Xander Daley and Ramos each drove in runs for LaPorte. The Slicers had patience at the plate, piling up eight walks for the game. Owen Barenthin, Khalen Matzke and Travis led the team with two free passes each. LaPorte was sure-handed and didn’t commit a single error. Dawson Shreve had the most plays with 13.
