LaPorte Slicers JV Baseball Impressive In Win Against Merrillville

Because of the weather, the Slicers played two five inning games on Wednesday in order to get both games in during the week. In the second game, Laporte won big over the Pirates 9-0. The Slicers got on the board in the top of the second inning after Owen Barenthin singled and Benedict hit a sacrifice fly, each scoring two runs. LaPorte added to their early lead in the top of the third inning after Khalen Matzke doubled and Dawson Shreve walked each scoring a run. Keegan Ramos earned the win for the Slicers. Ramos allowed zero hits and zero runs over four innings, striking out eight and walking three. Joey Kirk threw one inning of shutout ball for LaPorte in relief. Kirk gave up zero hits, striking out three and walking three. The Slicers amassed nine hits in the game. Matzke went 1-for-3 at the plate as the right fielder led the team with two runs batted in. Kirk led LaPorte with two hits in three at bats. Reed Raymond paced the Slicers with two walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, accumulating six walks for the game. Ramos stole two bases. LaPorte was again sure handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error. Shreve had the most chances in the field with seven. The Slicers are next in action Saturday, May 11th, when they will take on Lowell in a double header. The first game is scheduled to start at 10:00 a.m. with the second beginning shortly after at DeCamp Field.
