It was a great day for fast swimming and the 2025 DAC Championship meet at Lake Central High School. The Slicers showed up ready to race and earned podium finishes in every event. The meet opened up with the 200 Medley Relay. LaPorte finished third, by dropping over three seconds. The relay team was composed of: Roman Garay (backstroke), Abbas Hakim (breaststroke), Otto Wildhart (butterfly), and Chaise Adrian (freestyle). Their time of 1:37.12 positions them well heading into Sectionals. Chaise Adrian had a fast 200 Freestyle, clocking in at 1:48.64 to finish 7th. Adrian also finished 8th in the 500 Freestyle. Abbas Hakim finished second in the 100 Breaststroke with a season best time of 59.63. Hakim also had a season best time in the 200 Individual Medley, finishing 4th. The star of the afternoon for the Slicers was Otto Wildhart. Wildhart won the 100 Butterfly in a lifetime best of 51.09. He also had a lifetime PR in the 50 Freestyle, finishing 3rd in 21.38 seconds. Marco Serna finished 5th in Diving with a lifetime PR of 312.10 points. Roman Garay had two lifetime PRs, finishing 7th in the 100 Freestyle, and 4th in the 100 Backstroke. Garay's backstroke time of 54.94 positions him well for a Sectional goal time of 53. The 200 Freestyle Relay of Chase Childers, Cameron Hatala, Vijay Pillai and Karter Griffin finished 7th. The meet finished up with the 400 Freestyle Relay. LaPorte's team of Wildhart, Adrian, Garay and Hakim dropped 6 seconds to finish 2nd in a fast time of 3:16.58. Wildhart opened the relay with another lifetime PR, going 47.88 in his 100 Free split. There were time drops across the board for the Slicers. Big Slicer Shoutouts go to: Milo Jimenez, who had big drops in both the 200 Freestyle and 500 Freestyle. Chase Childers had PRs in both the 200 Free and 100 Free. Vijay Pillai had big drops in both the 100 Fly and 50 Free. Karter Griffin had PRs in the 200 IM and 100 Fly. Malachi Talbot had a huge drop in the 500 Free. Hugo Luna had big time drops in the 50 Free and 100 Back. Diver Andrew Hayes, who withdrew from diving in the morning due to illness, came back in the afternoon and had a PR in the 100 Backstroke. With pool boiler issues that hampered training for the past couple of weeks, plus Hayes under the weather, and another key swimmer out due to a conflict with the ISMA Music competition, the Slicers finished 5th overall. However, with all of the adversity, we are positioned well heading into the Sectional Championship meet in 3 weeks. The Slicers travel to Wheeler on Wednesday for their last regular season meet. Always proud. Go Slicers! Coach Brahim
