The LaPorte Wrestling Team earned third place in the IHSAA Sectional tournament this past Saturday. The Slicers had 11 wrestlers qualify to compete in the regional tournament. In order to qualify for the upcoming regional tournament, one must place in the top 4 in their respective weight class. Sam Malstaff (9-7), Oscar Saban (4-15), Gavin Drzewiecki (10-27), Christian Ford (12-20) and Ethan Bair (15-26) all earned fourth place at the sectional. Earning a third place finish for the Slicers was Brendan Maas (21-19), Grant Uhlemann (29-14), and Bryice Fain (16-10). Justin Dieken (16-16) finished second in the 165 pound weight class. Finally, the Slicers had two wrestlers win their weight class, Porter Ivankovig (34-6) at 132 pounds and Josh England (38-4) at 138 pounds. These 11 Slicers will be competing in the IHSAA Regional at Crown Point Saturday February 8th at 9am.
