LP Girls Swimming Finishes 4th Out of 13 Teams at Sectionals

The Slicers Girls Swim Team finished 4th out of 13 teams at Sectionals today, at the Hobart Natatorium. The Slicers had 5 Individual Podium appearances along with 3 Relay Podium finishes. Opening up the meet for LaPorte, our 200 Medley Relay team of: Cali Hatala (backstroke), Noor Hakim (breaststroke), Megan Zolvinski (butterfly), and Lily Siford (freestyle) finished 4th with a season best time of 1:57.20. This was a nearly 2 second time drop from prelims on Thursday. In the 200 Individual Medley, Noor Hakim finished on the podium in 8th place, and Cali Hatala was 9th, finishing first in the Consolation Heat. In the 50 Freestyle, Isabel Barron was 8th on the podium, with Lily Siford finishing 9th and Megan Zolvinski finishing 11th. After diving, Megan Zolvinski and Isabel Barron both made podium appearances in the 100 Butterfly, finishing 7th and 8th respectively. Lyla Bannwart finished 15th in Consolations. Lily Siford made another podium appearance, finishing 8th in the 100 Freestyle. Katelyn Peterson was 9th. Peterson also finished 12th in the 200 Freestyle with a lifetime PR. In the 500 Freestyle, Regan "Junior" Hughes had her best time in over 2 years, breaking the 6 minute mark with a time of 5:56.45. Hats off to Regan, who has battled back from a shoulder injury with an 11th place finish. The 200 Freestyle Relay finished 3rd, with Siford, Peterson, Zolvinski, and Barron. They dropped 3 seconds to finish with a season best time. Cali Hatala had a great race in the 100 backstroke, finishing 9th, with a lifetime PR. Regan Hughes was 12th. Noor Hakim finished 9th in the 100 Breaststroke, finishing first in her consolation heat. her time was a season best, and her fastest in over a year. The Slicers finished the meet with a 4th place finish in the 400 Freestyle Relay, with: Barron, Peterson, Hatala and Hakim. The quartet of girls dropped 2 seconds and had a season best time of 3:57.13. It was the last meet for Seniors Siford, Hughes, Zolvinski, Peterson and Bannwart. They are 5 amazing young ladies, and it's been a pleasure to be their coach. The Slicers finished their season 13-7, with a 4th place Sectional finish. That's something to be proud about. Go Slicers!
