The Slicers swam the prelims of the IHSAA Boys Swimming and Diving Sectionals at Valpo High School, and they achieved just about everything they planned on. At swim Sectionals, some of the top teams hold back a little for finals, knowing they can still get in without wearing themselves out in prelims. Valpo, Chesterton and LaPorte were all able to do that today. The Slicers opened the meet with a first place finish in the 200 Medley Relay with: Roman Garay (backstroke), Abbas Hakim (breaststroke), Otto Wildhart (butterfly), and Chaise Adrian (freestyle). They are the first seed on Saturday, but Valparaiso is still the favored team. The Slicers hope to make the State Cut in the event and head down to the State Championship meet next Friday and Saturday in Indianapolis. In the 200 Freestyle, Chaise Adrian (4th), and Chase Childers (8th), both made the 'A' finals. Milo Jimenez finished 11th for a 'B' finals appearance. In the 200 Individual Medley, Abbas Hakim finished as the first seed. Karter Griffin had a lifetime PR to finish 9th, and Cameron Hatala finished 11th. In the 50 Freestyle, Otto Wildhart finished 2nd. Four swimmers broke into the 21's, so Saturday's 50 final should be exciting. Wildhart also finished 2nd in the 100 Butterfly, with Karter Griffin getting another lifetime PR for 8th, to qualify for the 'A' final. Vijay Pillai had a lifetime PR to qualify for the 'B' final in 12th place. Roman Garay finished 6th in the 100 Freestyle, and Chase Childers finished 15h. Malachi Talbot is first alternate at 17th place. Chase Adrian is seeded first in the 500 Freestyle, with James Quadlin having a great race to finish 7th. Milo Jimenez continued with another lifetime PR, to finish 10th. The 200 Freestyle Relay of: Chase Childers, Andrew Hayes, James Quadlin and Karter Griffin finished 6th. In the 100 Backstroke, Roman Garay finished second, and diver Andrew Hayes finished 8th for an 'A' finals appearance. Hugo Luna had another lifetime PR to finish 9th. In the 100 Breaststroke, all three swimmers made the 'A' final. Abbas Hakim is 3rd, James Quadlin is 7th, and Cameron Hatala is 8th.. The boys finished prelims with a second place finish in the 400 Freestyle Relay with: Wildhart, Adrian, Garay and Hakim. Saturday's finals look to be exciting with several races up for grabs. The boys will finish tapering and shaving tomorrow getting ready for Saturday. Always proud. Go Slicers! Coach Brahim
