Slicers defeat Penn in Sectional Opener, 52-37

The Varsity Boys basketball team defeated Penn 52-37 on Tuesday night in the first round of the IHSAA Sectional, held at Michigan City High School. La Porte used a very spirited defensive and rebounding effort from the tip-off, holding Penn to 3 points after the first quarter. On the offensive end, the Slicers took care of the ball, having only 7 turnovers in the game, a season best mark for the team. La Porte was led by Griffin Ott-Large with 19 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Nic Spence had 11 points, 9 rebounds, and 3 steals for the Slicers. Destin Matzke added 8 pts, 7 rebs, Sawyer Tonagel also had 8 pts, knocking down two threes, and Reed Raymond had 6 pts, 7 rebs. La Porte improves to 15-9 on the season and advances to the Sectional Semifinal against the host school, Michigan City, on Friday at 5:30 PM.
