After a great week 1 to start the season, the Slicers returned to Indiana Wesleyan for another Indoor Hoosier State Relays Qualifier at Indiana Wesleyan University. The day was highlighted by continuous improvements from week 1 as well as personal bests for both relays and individuals. Setting the tone early was the 4x800 relay team of Liam Lilly, Charles Tonagel, Jack Miskowicz, and Landyn Hunt who won the event with a time of 8:11.57; and setting the 7th best performance in the state so far in the process! In Destin Matzke finished 1st and matched his personal best of 5' 10" in his first competition of the season. Gavin Wilson finished 3rd overall and established a new personal best time of 8.81 in the 60 hurdles, with Isaiah Hurt placing 9th and establishing a new personal best in the same event of 9.29. Malachi Washington finished 3rd in the shot put with a personal best throw of 49' 4.75", and Casey Cochran finished 8th (46' 6.75"). Capping off the evening was the stellar performance of Tayshaun Williams, Liam Lilly, Gavin Wilson, and Landyn Hunt establishing a new indoor school record (3rd best overall performance in school history) in the 4x400 relay with a time of 3:25.06! That time currently has them sitting with the 4th best performance in the state, and 2nd best on an indoor flat track. After two weeks, the Slicers are sitting with top 24 performances in the Distance Medley (16th), 4x800 (7th), and 4x400 (4th) relays. Top 24 finishes are required to be eligible to qualify for the HSR State Finals in Indianapolis on March 29th. Next up this Friday, the Slicers will compete at Trine University in their HSR Qualifier Meet. Full results can be found here: https://indiana.tfrrs.org/results/89482/IWU_HSR_Qualifier_3 Go Slicers!
