LaPorte Slicers JV Baseball Sweeps Double Header

LaPorte Slicers JV swept a double header on Saturday, defeating Logansport 11-1 in the first game and Lafayette Jefferson 21-3 in the second. The Slicers dispatched the Logansport Berries on Saturday, 11-1 in five innings. Logansport were first to get on the board in the first inning but LaPorte was quick to take the lead back in the bottom of the first inning. Khalen Matzke’s single and a Logansport error allowed two runs to score. The Slicers extended their early lead with three runs in the bottom of the second inning thanks to RBI singles by Eli Combs, Nate Moses and Noah Combs. LaPorte scored five runs on two hits in the bottom of the fourth inning. Two errors, a single by Xander Daley and a sacrifice fly by Nolan Wilson helped put the game out of reach. Wilson earned the win for the Slicers allowing two hits and one run over five innings, striking out seven and walking two. Combs drove the middle of the lineup, leading LaPorte with two runs batted in. The 3-hole hitter went 2-for-3 on the day. Combs and Moses each collected multiple hits for the Slicers. Moses stole four bases as LaPorte ran wild on the base paths, accumulating seven stolen bases for the game. In the second game LaPorte won big over Lafayette Jefferson 21-3. The Slicers got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Lafayette committed an error and allowed a drop third strike, each scoring one run. LaPorte added to their early lead in the bottom of the second inning when Xander Daley singled, scoring one run, James Morgan singled, scoring two runs and Noah Combs doubled, scoring one run. The Slicers scored 10 runs on five hits in the bottom of the third inning. Ethan Badger singled, scoring two runs, Eli Combs drew a walk, scoring one, Ian Mitchell also drew a walk which scored one, Ryan Kavanaugh singled, scoring another, Luke Lambert singled, scoring one, Jon Rinkel doubled, scoring two runs and Wes Kaiser grounded out which scored two more runs. LaPorte scored five runs on one hit in the bottom of the fourth inning. Kavanaugh singled scoring two runs while the Slicers were gifted the other runs thanks to errors. Rinkel earned the win for LaPorte allowing five hits and two runs over four innings, striking out five and walking none. Eli Combs appeared in relief for the Slicers. LaPorte accumulated 10 hits in the game. Kavanaugh and Rinkel each collected two hits for the Slicers. Kavanaugh went 2-for-2 at the plate and led the team with three runs batted in. LaPorte had a strong eye at the plate, collecting eight walks for the game. Combs and Nolan Wilson led the team with two bases on balls each. Lambert and Wilson each stole multiple bases for the Slicers. LaPorte ran wild on the base paths, collecting seven stolen bases for the game. The Slicers are next in action Tuesday, April 15th, when they will travel to Lake Central to take on the Indians. First pitch is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
