LaPorte Varsity Softball Defeats Merrillville On Back Of Clutch Display From Shayla Sorg Sorg drove in five runs on two hits to lead LaPorte past Merrillville Varsity 13-0 on Wednesday. Sorg hit a home run to left field in the first inning, scoring three runs, and doubled in the second inning, scoring two. LaPorte got on the board in the top of the first inning after Allie Wiencek singled, scoring one run, Sorg homered to left field, scoring three runs, and Addi Hill singled, scoring two runs. LaPorte scored five runs on six hits in the top of the second inning. Evie Travis singled, scoring one run, Sorg doubled, scoring two runs, Jersey Worthington singled, scoring one run, and Addy Bennitt drew a walk, scoring one run. A single by Keraghan Blind extended the LaPorte lead to 12-0 in the top of the third inning. Bennitt earned the win for LaPorte. The hurler surrendered six hits and zero runs over five innings, striking out six and walking none. LaPorte amassed 18 hits in the game.
