La Porte Varsity Slicers Defeats Goshen In Pitcher's Duel Both teams were strong on the hill on Saturday, but La Porte Varsity Slicers defeated Goshen 3-2. Joey Kirk started the game for La Porte Varsity Slicers and recorded 15 outs. A fielder's choice by Keegan Ramos put La Porte Varsity Slicers on the board in the top of the fourth. Braxton Cline grounded out, which helped Goshen tie the game at one in the bottom of the fourth. A walk by Cody Benedict gave La Porte Varsity Slicers the lead, 2-1, in the top of the fifth. Kirk earned the win for La Porte Varsity Slicers. The hurler surrendered two hits and two runs over five innings, striking out four and walking four. Colton Rapp took the loss for Goshen. The pitcher went two innings, surrendering two runs (one earned) on one hit, striking out two and walking four. Quinn Shreiner Landes opened the game for Goshen. The pitcher surrendered four hits and zero runs over three innings, striking out three and walking none. CT Rusboldt collected the save. Reed Raymond set the tone at the top of the lineup, leading La Porte Varsity Slicers with two hits in four at bats. La Porte Varsity Slicers were sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Jackson Urbancyzk had the most chances in the field with eight. Cline provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Goshen with two runs batted in. The shortstop went 1-for-3 on the day. Bryson Wilson, Cline, and Karter Marcum each collected one hit for Goshen. Goshen turned one double play in the game. La Porte Varsity Slicers play at home on Tuesday against Chesterton in their next game.
