LaPorte Varsity Softball Surges Past Michigan City Thanks To Big First Inning LaPorte defeated Michigan City 10-0 on Tuesday thanks in part to six runs in the first inning. Madi Squire hit a solo home run to left field, Shayla Sorg tripled, scoring one run, Lexi Surowiec grounded out, scoring one run, Megan Zolvinski drew a walk, scoring one run, and Paige White to hit into a fielder's choice, but two runs scored. LaPorte added one run in the second after Evie Travis singled down the right field line. Kieanna Simpson pitched four innings in relief for LaPorte. The reliever gave up one hit and zero runs while, striking out six and walking three. Mia Maxel started in the circle for LaPorte. The righty gave up zero hits and zero runs over one inning, striking out three and walking one. LaPorte collected 10 hits in the game. Travis went 3-for-3 at the plate and led the team with three runs batted in. Squire collected two hits for LaPorte in four at bats. LaPorte Varsity Slicers turned two double plays in the game. Next up for LaPorte is a home game against Merrillville on Wednesday.
