Cody Ryden Leads La Porte Varsity Slicers Past Merrillville Cody Ryden struck out 11 batters as the pitcher led La Porte Varsity Slicers past Merrillville 11-2 on Tuesday. Ryden surrendered two hits and two runs over seven innings while walking three. Merrillville opened the scoring in the first after an error scored one run. Cody Benedict singled to center field, which helped La Porte Varsity Slicers tie the game at one in the bottom of the first. La Porte Varsity Slicers took the lead in the bottom of the second. An error scored one run, to give La Porte Varsity Slicers the edge, 2-1. La Porte Varsity Slicers added one run in the third after Keegan Ramos grounded out. I Aguayo took the loss for Merrillville. The pitcher went five and two-thirds innings, allowing 10 runs (eight earned) on eight hits, striking out one and walking four. La Porte Varsity Slicers piled up nine hits in the game. Benedict drove the middle of the lineup, leading La Porte Varsity Slicers with two runs batted in. The cleanup hitter went 2-for-3 on the day. Gage Raymond led La Porte Varsity Slicers with three hits in four at bats from the leadoff position. Reed Raymond collected two hits for La Porte Varsity Slicers in three at bats. La Porte Varsity Slicers had a strong eye at the plate, collecting six walks for the game. CT Rusboldt and Joey Kirk led the team with two bases on balls each. Raymond stole two bases. La Porte Varsity Slicers stole four bases in the game. D Wiggins and T Goodwin were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected one hit for Merrillville.
