Lincoln Grohs’ No Hitter Leads La Porte Slicers JV Past Merrillville Junior Varsity Pirates

Lincoln Grohs struck out 12 batters on the day. The hurler also allowed zero hits and zero runs over five innings while walking two. Xander Daley collected three hits in four at bats, as La Porte Slicers JV defeated Merrillville Junior Varsity Pirates 22-0 on Wednesday. Daley singled in the fourth inning, singled in the fifth inning, and singled in the third inning. La Porte Slicers JV got on the board in the top of the first inning after Jon Rinkel singled, scoring two runs, and an error scored one run. La Porte Slicers JV added one run in the second after Noah Combs grounded out. La Porte Slicers JV scored five runs on six hits in the top of the third inning. Nolan Wilson drew a walk, scoring one run, Nate Moses singled, scoring two runs, James Morgan singled, scoring one run, and Combs doubled, scoring one run. La Porte Slicers JV scored 11 runs on four hits in the top of the fourth inning. Ian Mitchell was struck by a pitch, driving in a run, Ryan Kavanaugh drew a walk, scoring one run, Eli Combs was struck by a pitch, driving in a run, Mitchell scored after tagging up, Wes Kaiser singled, scoring one run, Rinkel singled, scoring one run, Daley singled, scoring two runs, Mitchell drew a walk, scoring one run, Kavanaugh drew a walk, scoring one run, and Combs drew a walk, scoring one run. La Porte Slicers JV tallied 16 hits in the game. Rinkel went 5-for-5 at the plate to lead La Porte Slicers JV in hits. Khalen Matzke collected two hits for La Porte Slicers JV in three at bats. Kavanaugh paced La Porte Slicers JV with two walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, tallying nine walks for the game. Matzke, Daley, and Moses each stole multiple bases for La Porte Slicers JV. La Porte Slicers JV stole 10 bases in the game. La Porte Slicers JV were sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Kaiser had the most chances in the field with 12. The Slicers are next in action Friday, May 9th when they will take on South Bend Adams at home. First pitch is slated for 4:30 pm at DeCamp Field.
