Cody Ryden Leads La Porte Varsity Slicers Past South Bend Riley Cody Ryden was dominant on the hill, as the righty rang up 12 strikeouts in La Porte Varsity Slicers's 11-0 victory over South Bend Riley on Friday. Ryden surrendered zero hits and zero runs over five innings while walking two. La Porte Varsity Slicers jumped out to the lead in the bottom of the first inning after Cody Benedict singled, scoring one run, Maxum Katinek induced Keegan Ramos to hit into a fielder's choice, but one run scored, Joey Kirk singled, scoring two runs, and Braxton Maxfield singled, scoring one run. Five more La Porte Varsity Slicers runs crossed the plate in the fifth inning to extend the lead to 11-0. Keli Hay singled, scoring two runs, and CT Rusboldt homered to left field, scoring three runs. Katinek took the loss for South Bend Riley. The pitcher went one inning, allowing five runs on five hits, striking out two and walking none. La Porte Varsity Slicers tallied nine hits in the game. Rusboldt drove the middle of the lineup, leading La Porte Varsity Slicers with three runs batted in. The 3-hole hitter went 2-for-3 on the day. La Porte Varsity Slicers stole five bases in the game.
