Warriors Battle to the End in 71–65 Road Loss at Evansville Memorial

EVANSVILLE — The Scottsburg Warriors varsity boys basketball team put together a gritty road performance Saturday afternoon but came up just short in a 71–65 loss at Evansville Memorial. Scottsburg led after the opening quarter, jumping out to a 26–15 advantage behind strong shooting and early energy. Memorial responded in the second quarter, trimming the deficit as the Warriors went into halftime up 40–32. The Tigers took control in the third period, outscoring Scottsburg 17–9, and followed with a 22-point fourth quarter to secure the six-point win. Despite the loss, Scottsburg shot the ball efficiently, finishing at 49.0% from the field and 45.8% from three-point range (11-for-24). The Warriors’ effective field goal percentage stood at an impressive 60.2%, highlighting the quality of looks generated offensively. Jarin Luttrell led the Warriors with 19 points, knocking down 5-of-7 from beyond the arc. Garrett Boling added 13 points, six rebounds, four assists, and a block, while Braden Cox chipped in 11 points and three assists. Jaxon Owens scored 9 points with three three-pointers, and Bennett Pearcy contributed 8 points. Caiden Boswell rounded out the scoring with 5 points, two assists, four deflections, and two blocks. Scottsburg held advantages in several hustle categories, including assists (14–12), defensive rebounds (22–18), and blocks (4–1). The Warriors also matched Memorial with eight second-chance points. However, Memorial capitalized on turnovers, scoring 23 points off giveaways, and owned the paint with 38 points inside compared to Scottsburg’s 26. At the free-throw line, Scottsburg went 6-of-10, while Memorial converted 15-of-24, helping swing momentum in the second half. The Warriors showed resilience throughout the night, answering multiple Memorial runs and staying within striking distance until the final minutes.
