Warrior Wrestling Competes at MSC Tournament in Charlestown

The Scottsburg Warrior wrestling team competed Friday night at the Mid-Southern Conference Tournament, hosted by Charlestown, battling through a deep and competitive field and coming away with multiple podium finishes. As a team, the Warriors finished 5th overall with 105.5 points. Charlestown captured the team title with 277 points, followed by Corydon Central (247.5), Silver Creek (146), Salem (120), Scottsburg (105.5), and North Harrison (52). Sophomore James Salkeld delivered a standout performance for the Warriors at 138 pounds. Salkeld opened the tournament with a dominant technical fall in the quarterfinals, followed by a semifinal pin. He capped his night by winning the MSC Championship at 138 pounds, earning a first-period fall in the finals to claim the conference title. Junior Hayden Wycoff battled back strong at 190 pounds after a tough semifinal loss, finishing the tournament with a 3rd place finish after earning a decision in the placement match. At 113 pounds, junior Beau Carter also earned a spot on the podium. Carter rebounded through the consolation bracket and secured 3rd place, winning his third-place match by forfeit. Additional Warriors contributed key wins throughout the tournament. Braxton Severinsen finished 3rd at 126 pounds, earning a pin in his placement match. Lucas Wimp (120), Gavin Curley (144), and Matthew Hamilton (157) each picked up important victories, with Hamilton earning a fall late in the consolation rounds. Despite facing several forfeits across the lineup, the Warriors competed hard and gained valuable experience against conference opponents as the postseason approaches. Scottsburg now turns its focus to the upcoming sectional tournament, looking to build on the strong individual performances from the MSC meet. Go Warriors. 💜🤼♂️
