On a chilly Saturday evening in Meyer Gymnasium, the Scottsburg Warriors varsity boys basketball team fought hard but ultimately fell to the Southwestern (Hanover) Rebels, 69–54 in a non-conference matchup that tested every bit of their grit and resolve. The Rebels jumped out early, scoring 16 points in the first quarter to the Warriors’ 10, and never relinquished control. Southwestern’s balanced attack — led by Braxton Lewis with 25 points and Brady Cook adding 16 more — helped them build and sustain a lead through all four quarters. Scottsburg battled back with determined play, but struggles shooting from the field and turnovers allowed the Rebels to maintain separation through the second half. Final quarter scoring showed Southwestern stretching their advantage, outscoring Scottsburg 21–17 in the fourth to close out the 69–54 victory. Despite the result, the Warriors showed heart and effort until the final horn. Statistical Highlights Scottsburg Warriors (54): Shot 20-of-53 overall (37.7%) with 8 made threes (24.2%). The Warriors contributed 36 bench points but struggled to keep pace with southwestern’s efficiency. Southwestern Rebels (69): Played strong inside and out, shooting over 60% from the field (24-of-38) and knocking down 8 of 13 three-point attempts. The loss drops Scottsburg to 12–10 on the season, while the Rebels improve to 12–10 in their campaign. The evening began with recognition of the Warriors’ senior players and cheerleaders, honoring their dedication and commitment to the program. The school then took time to honor the legacy of longtime coach Jim Barley (1934–2025), recognizing his lasting impact on Scottsburg basketball and the many lives he influenced throughout his career. In addition, former Warrior standout Jeff Moore was recognized for his recent induction into the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame. Moore’s accomplishments and contributions to Indiana basketball continue to be a source of pride for the Scottsburg community. Fans packed Meyer Gymnasium to celebrate both the present and the past — a powerful reminder that Warrior basketball is built on tradition, excellence, and community support.
