Brentley Spaw struck out 11 batters as the starting pitcher led Scottsburg Varsity Warriors past Lanesville 13-3 on Wednesday. Spaw allowed four hits and three runs over five innings while walking three. Scottsburg Varsity Warriors got on the board in the top of the first inning after Carter Gricius was struck by a pitch, driving in a run, Cale Barger drew a walk, scoring one run, and Tucker Doriot doubled, scoring three runs. Lanesville scored three runs in the bottom of the first on a home run to left field by Payne. Scottsburg Varsity Warriors added to their early lead in the top of the second inning after Garret McClellan hit a sacrifice fly, Gricius doubled, and Spaw singled, each scoring one run. Scottsburg Varsity Warriors scored five runs on five hits in the top of the fifth inning. Tanner Best singled, scoring one run, Brandt Kendall tripled, scoring one run, McClellan singled, scoring one run, Gricius singled, scoring one run, and Peyton Sebastian singled, scoring one run. Hall took the loss for Lanesville. The starting pitcher went two-thirds of an inning, surrendering five runs (four earned) on one hit, striking out one and walking three. Scottsburg Varsity Warriors piled up nine hits in the game. Best and Gricius each collected two hits for Scottsburg Varsity Warriors. McClellan, Gricius, and Doriot each drove in two runs for Scottsburg Varsity Warriors. Kendall led Scottsburg Varsity Warriors with two walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, tallying six walks for the game. Payne drove the middle of the lineup, leading Lanesville with three runs batted in.
