Brandt Kendall hit two home runs and drove in five as the Scottsburg Varsity Warriors defeated Henryville 15-2 on Tuesday. Kendall homered in the sixth and fourth innings. Brentley Spaw struck out 11 batters on the day. The starting pitcher also allowed three hits and two runs over five innings while walking none. Henryville got on the board in the first inning after Chase Byrd singled, scoring two runs. The Warriors jumped back into the lead in the top of the second inning after Tanner Best doubled, and the Hornets committed an error, each scoring two runs. Scottsburg added one run in the third after Brody White balked. The Warriors scored one run in the top of the fourth on a solo home run to right field by Kendall. Scottsburg added seven more runs in the top of the sixth inning on three hits. Tucker Doriot drew a walk, scoring one run, Wyatt Crawford drew a walk, scoring one run, and Kendall hit a grand slam to center field. White took the loss for the Hornets. They went three and two-thirds innings, surrendering six runs (one earned) on four hits, striking out three and walking two. Best and Kendall were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected two hits for Scottsburg while hitting back-to-back. Scottsburg had a strong eye at the plate, collecting nine walks for the game. Cale Barger and Doriot led the team with two free passes each. The Warriors didn't commit a single error in the field. Carter Gricius had the most chances in the field with 11. Byrd drove the middle of the lineup, leading Henryville with two runs batted in. They went 1-for-2 on the day. Hayden Barbour, Dustin O'Bannon, and Byrd each collected one hit for Henryville Varsity Hornets. Scottsburg will travel to Salem for their next game on Thursday.
