On Friday, November 28, during the home game when the Warriorettes host Brownstown Central High School Girls Basketball, we will proudly welcome back the 1985-86 Warriorette squad for their 40th-year reunion. That season is one of the most storied in Scottsburg history — the team posted a 24-3 record and earned the distinction of being the IHSAA State Runner-Up. From dominating early games (including a 109-26 win over Paoli) to a tightly contested state final (a 55-58 loss to Fort Wayne Northrop), this group demonstrated excellence, resilience, and heart. Why This Reunion Matters It’s not just a celebration of wins and losses — it’s a celebration of the legacy these women left: the standard they set for Warriorettes basketball and the inspiration they provided to generations that followed. Having the reunion on a game night amplifies that legacy. The current Warriorettes will take the court knowing they follow in the footsteps of a team that raised the banner high. It’s a chance for teammates, coaches, families, and fans to reconnect, reminisce, share stories, and reflect on how far the program has come since 1986. For the community, it’s a reminder of the enduring tradition of Scottsburg athletics and how one season can ripple out and touch so many lives. Golden Moments from 1985-86 A blistering early-season stretch: a commanding 109-26 victory over Paoli. Narrow losses that strengthened their resolve, including a regular-season 51-55 loss to Seymour. Tournament triumphs: Sectional wins over Southwestern (66-44), Madison (59-49) and New Washington (63-45); Regional wins over Silver Creek (65-39) and Corydon (42-34); Semi-State wins over Bedford NL (46-35) and Seymour again (57-51). The state semi-final win: defeating Gary Wallace 62-59. The bittersweet finish: falling to Fort Wayne Northrop 55-58 in the state final. In the State Championship game, Leslie Ferrell delivered one of the top individual performances in IHSAA State Finals history — scoring 29 points and grabbing 16 rebounds to lead Scottsburg in a hard-fought title game. Tadgi DeBerg was honored with the prestigious IHSAA Mental Attitude Award, recognizing her leadership, sportsmanship, and excellence both on and off the court.
