Scott Leverenz is the embodiment of what it means to bleed red and black. A lifelong educator, a relentless advocate for student development, and a model servant leader. Scott’s career has been defined by his unwavering commitment to the community that helped shape him. A proud 1981 graduate of Lafayette Jefferson High School, Scott knew early in his professional journey that he wanted to return home back to the halls, fields, and people who molded his formative years. His mission has always been simple: to give back to the school and the students who represent its future. Over the last decade and beyond, Scott has served Lafayette Jefferson in multiple administrative capacities, including Assistant Principal and, currently, Assistant Athletic Director. His love for athletics, education, and the Broncho community is unmistakable. Whether coordinating events, supporting coaches, helping students navigate challenges, or simply showing up as the loudest cheerleader in the stands, Scott’s passion radiates through everything he does. As a master of his craft, Scott takes tremendous pride in the countless details that make an athletic department run smoothly. Often the first person in the building each morning, he greets both familiar faces and newcomers with his signature smile. His colleagues speak of him with appreciation too. “Scott is someone you can always depend on for help... he always has a smile on his face, and his laugh is one of many things that speaks to who he is,” says Athletic Academic Advisor Angelique Johns. Event Coordinator/Concessions Manager Kirby Gibson echoes that sentiment: “He is the first one who will lend a hand, and he always brightens my day every time I see him.” Whether ensuring IHSAA officials feel welcomed on campus or stepping into any task that needs attention, Scott serves without hesitation and without seeking recognition. He is, without question, the living definition of the values represented by the Charles Maas Award. This year, the Indiana Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (IIAAA) has recognized Mr. Leverenz for his decades of dedication to education, education-based athletics, and enriching the high school experience for countless students. The Charles Maas Award, selected by District Athletic Directors, honors an individual whose career has included significant contributions to athletic administration at both the local and state levels. Scott is one of six distinguished district honorees across Indiana and will be considered for the statewide award in March. Scott’s commitment to Lafayette Jefferson High School is unmatched. His impact on students, staff, families, and the broader Broncho community is profound, lasting, and deeply appreciated. Through his service, leadership, and heart, he has helped create an environment where students thrive and where the values of education-based athletics shine. Congratulations to Assistant Athletic Director Scott Leverenz on this well-deserved honor!
