Tennis Starts 2-0; Baseball and Softball Keep Winning

Girls' Tennis @ Lake Central Varsity--Lake Central 5 Lowell 0 JV--Lake Central 5 Lowell 0 The Indians have started 2-0 with complete sweeps of their first two opponents. LC's play at singles and doubles was exceptional yesterday. The Indians will host Hanover Central on Thursday. #1S: Nora Karr (LC) def Aubrey Fleming (L) 6-0, 6-0 #2S: Tatiana Marjanovich (LC) def Madi Nestroski (L) 6-0, 6-2 #3S: Delaney Delso (LC) def Allie Miedma (L) 6-1, 6-0 #1D: Andie Schultz / Lyla Hurey (LC) def Peyton Bryant / Sarah Hackett (L) 6-0, 6-0 #2D: Ava Bafia / Tessa Murzyn (LC) def Kinsey Meehan / Aubrie Lucka (L) 6-1, 6-1 V Baseball--LC 11 La Porte 3 JV (Blue) Baseball--LC 9 La Porte 0 The Lake Central Indians JV Blue team defeated the LaPorte Slicers 9-0 on Tuesday evening in a DAC showdown. Marc Passo was exceptional on the mound for the Indians, allowing only two hits in five innings of work. Passo struck out three Slicer hitters and induced weak contact all game, and Connor Friesema closed the game out for the Indians. The Indians blew the game open in the 5th, spurred by two different two-run singles by Ryan Mikolanis and Anthony Sanchez. Jacob Forystek and Anthony Sanchez each had three hits for the Indians. The Indians move to 3-1 overall and travel to LaPorte tonight to finish the DAC series with the Slicers. In the varsity game, Josh Flores earned the start and he worked 2 2/3 innings without allowing a hit. Flores allowed 3 runs while striking out 6 and walking 8. Trevor Kubacki was fantastic in relief as he finished off a combined no hitter. Kubacki worked 4 1/3 and was the pitcher of record in the victory. Ryder Fernandez, Drew Kosteba, and Jacob Zimmerman led the way offensively with 3 hits apiece. Fernandez drove in 3 and scored 3. Jake Figg and Dylan Hein also had 2 hits. LC travels back to La Porte today looking for the 2-game sweep. V Softball--LC 13 Chesterton 2 JV Softball--LC 7 Chesterton 4 The JV softball team moved to 4-0 with the 7-4 victory over Chesterton. The Indians squandered a 6-run lead but the pitching duo of Ava DeNormandie and Sophia Cembala helped LC to victory. They combined for 10 strikeouts. Aubrey Richardson, Ava Musch, and Emma Wilkins (4 RBIs) each had 3 hits. DeNormandie helped her own cause with a pair of hits, including a double. The now state ranked number 1 Indians hosted Chesterton last night. With a convincing 13-2 victory, LC is now 8-0 overall and 3-0 in the DAC. Freshman Jada Lewis worked 5 innings in the run-rule shortened game. She allowed just 2 runs and fanned 6. LC pounded out 15 hits with 4 going for extra bases. Jessy Del Toro and Sofia Beals each had 3 hits and combined to drive in 5 runs. Madi Wainwright and Tegan Tripp also had multi-hit games. The Indians travel to Portage to take on the Red Indians this evening and will then host the LC Classic on Saturday. The classic features Edwardsburg (MI), Lincoln Way Central (IL), and Franklin Central (IN). JV/V Boys' T/F--Lake Central vs. La Porte vs. Merrillville Varsity--La Porte 91 LC 36 JV--LC 51 La Porte 22 Merrillville 93 LC 39 LC 59 Merrillville 14 The boys' track and field team opened their conference slate on Tuesday. They started 0-2 with losses to La Porte and Merrillville. Jacob White-Hutsler was the lone event winner for the varsity team as he cruised to victory in the 200M. In the JV meet, the Indians were victorious in 6 events: Dominic Williams (100M); Liam Cupit, Kris Allen, Cameron Alexander, Abraham Gomez (4X100M); Elijah Dudy (400M); Gomez (200M); Mason Schmidt (D); Allen (LJ). LC will compete at the Flashes Distance Showcase on Friday and then travel to Chesterton for a triangular next week. V Girls' T/F--LC vs. La Porte vs. Merrillville Varsity--LC 79 Merrillville 53 LC 103 La Porte 29 The girls continued their winning ways Tuesday night, starting 2-0 in the DAC for track and field: LC was victorious by a fairly slim margin over Merrillville and convincing margin over La Porte. The Indians won 9 events on the evening!
